Car Rental
To have the freedom of being able to drive anywhere you want when you want to go definitely enhances your holiday experience if your idea of a great holiday is to explore the local area and different beaches etc.
If you just like lazing around on the local beach or round the swimming pool then you really do not need a hire care so you can ignore this section.
The main problem we have found with renting cars is not so much the advertised rental cost but some of the extra's like additional insurance and having to pay for a full tank of fuel. Normal damage is covered with the included insurance, but things like windows, exhaust, keys are not. if you feel that you do not want to take a chance on damage to these items, then do not take the insurance offered at the car companies, it is quite often better and cheaper to take out your own specialised insurance to cover this. you can search the web and find them, take a look at daily (for the number of days you are away) or an annual policy (a cheaper way to do it if you go away and hire cars multiple times) from companies such as insurance4carhire.com (we have found it OK (this is not a recommendation, just our own experience so far) , or to compare prices go to MoneyMaxim and check out their prices.
Most companies use the option of
The cost that they charge you for a full tank is quite often well above the normal price that you can purchase at the local service stations (especially the ones associated with the supermarkets)
Car companies I tend to use nowadays are: Firefly and Centauro, usually booking via an agent such as AutoEurope or DoYouSpain and Clarify.
Another website is Moneymaxim which have a car rental section.

Most companies use the option of
- giving you a full tank of petrol and you return it full
- giving you a full tank of petrol and you get a refund for the remainder left in the tank,
- giving you a full tank of petrol and you do not get any refund for unused fuel.

One Company (who I must admit that I have not used, but was recommended by friends is HTS They offer a service which may suit those of you that may be a bit nervous of just jumping into a car at the airport and finding the apartment etc. They will pick you up at the airport and take you to the apartment, where a hire car will be waiting for you, and at the end of the rental, again they will pick you up at the apartment and take you to the airport. This is a little dearer (not much) but for some people peace of mind is well worth it. (You can practice driving around the local estate until you feel confident to go on the major roads, and there is no getting lost on the way to the apartment or even worse on the way to catch your flight home).
Note this company has been bought out by David leader (Leader cars) email address is [email protected]
Another company that seems quite reasonable is "Smart Sell" it is an estate agents that are near La Zenia Boulavard and they do rent out cars. Click HERE on the link to go to their website for more information.
